"Saul will hear about it and kill me." God said, "Take a heifer with you and announce, 'I've come to lead you in worship of God, with this heifer as a sacrifice.' Make sure Jesse gets invited. Saul has been selected by the people. Samuel was sent to anoint the young man God selected to be King of Israel.

• From Marc Lambert -- We discovered that Mollie will not able to attend all of camp this year as a sponsor as planned. We are looking for a lady to fill in that spot. Responsibilities are basically keeping an eye on the girls, making sure they stay in their cabin at night and get to where they're supposed to be on time. Not a requirement, but a plus would be someone who could also engage with the girls during games and free time. That might even include getting wet and dirty, but at minimum serve as a cheerleader to keep their excitement levels up since the students tend to take their cues from the adults. "The soldiers saved back a few of the choice cattle and sheep to offer up in sacrifice to God. But everything else we destroyed under the holy ban." ¹⁶ "Enough!" interrupted Samuel. "Let me tell you what God told me last night." Saul said, "Go ahead. Tell me." ^17-19 And Samuel told him. "When you started out in this, you were nothing— and you knew it. Then God put you at the head of Israel—made you king over Israel. Then God sent you off to do a job for him, ordering you, 'Go and put those sinners, the Amalekites, under a holy ban. Go to war against them until you have totally wiped them out.' So why did you not obey God? Why did you grab all this loot? Why, with God's eyes on you all the time, did you brazenly carry out this evil?" ^20-21 Saul defended himself. "What are you talking about? I did obey God. I did the job God set for me. I brought in King Agag and destroyed the Amalekites under the terms of the holy ban. So the soldiers saved back a few choice sheep and cattle from the holy ban for sacrifice to God at Gilgal—what's wrong with that?" ^22-23 Then Samuel said, Do you think all God wants are sacrifices— empty rituals just for show? He wants you to listen to him! Plain listening is the thing, not staging a lavish religious production. Not doing what God tells you is far worse than fooling around in the occult. Getting self-important around God is far worse than making deals with your dead ancestors. Because you said No to God's command, he says No to your kingship. The Message

To obey God is far better than sacrifice to God and rituals.

In the beginning Samuel didn’t know God’s voice. But in time he learned to listen when God spoke to him.

• SATURDAY – Youth fund raiser car wash at First National Bank Central Texas Saturday morning. 
• From Marc Lambert -- We discovered yesterday that Mollie will not able to attend all of camp this year as a sponsor as planned. We are looking for a lady to fill in that spot. Responsibilities are basically keeping an eye on the girls, making sure they stay in their cabin at night and get to where they're supposed to be on time. Not a requirement, but a plus would be someone who could also engage with the girls during games and free time. That might even include getting wet and dirty, but at minimum serve as a cheerleader to keep their excitement levels up since the students tend to take their cues from the adults. Judges 11: ^29-31 God's Spirit came upon Jephthah. He went across Gilead and Manasseh, went through Mizpah of Gilead, and from there approached the Ammonites. Jephthah made a vow before God: "If you give me a clear victory over the Ammonites, then I'll give to God whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in one piece from among the Ammonites—I'll offer it up in a sacrificial burnt offering." ^32-33 Then Jephthah was off to fight the Ammonites. And God gave them to him. He beat them soundly, all the way from Aroer to the area around Minnith as far as Abel Keramim—twenty cities! A massacre! Ammonites brought to their knees by the People of Israel. ^34-35 Jephthah came home to Mizpah. His daughter ran from the house to welcome him home—dancing to tambourines! She was his only child. He had no son or daughter except her. When he realized who it was, he ripped his clothes, saying, "Ah, dearest daughter—I'm dirt. I'm despicable. My heart is torn to shreds. I made a vow to God and I can't take it back!" The Message

Jephthah made a vow to God that God didn’t require of him. It cost his daughter her life.

Judges 5: ¹ When all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and the Canaanite kings along the seacoast heard how God had stopped the Jordan River before the People of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts sank; the courage drained out of them just thinking about the People of Israel. ^2-3 At that time God said to Joshua, "Make stone knives and circumcise the People of Israel a second time." So Joshua made stone knives and circumcised the People of Israel at Foreskins Hill. ^4-7 This is why Joshua conducted the circumcision. All the males who had left Egypt, the soldiers, had died in the wilderness on the journey out of Egypt. All the people who had come out of Egypt, of course, had been circumcised, but all those born in the wilderness along the way since leaving Egypt had not been. The fact is that the People of Israel had walked through that wilderness for forty years until the entire nation died out, all the men of military age who had come out of Egypt but had disobeyed the call of God. God vowed that these would never lay eyes on the land God had solemnly promised their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. But their children had replaced them. These are the ones Joshua circumcised. They had never been circumcised; no one had circumcised them along the way. ⁸ When they had completed the circumcising of the whole nation, they stayed where they were in camp until they were healed. The Message

The men of Israel required a time to heal after they were circumcised before beginning the battle.

Judges 4:  ^1-3The People of Israel kept right on doing evil in God's sight. With Ehud dead, God sold them off to Jabin king of Canaan who ruled from Hazor. Sisera, who lived in Harosheth Haggoyim, was the commander of his army. The People of Israel cried out to God because he had cruelly oppressed them with his nine hundred iron chariots for twenty years. ^4-5 Deborah was a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth. She was judge over Israel at that time. She held court under Deborah's Palm between Ramah and Bethel in the hills of Ephraim. The People of Israel went to her in matters of justice. ^6-7 She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, "It has become clear that God, the God of Israel, commands you: Go to Mount Tabor and prepare for battle. Take ten companies of soldiers from Naphtali and Zebulun. I'll take care of getting Sisera, the leader of Jabin's army, to the Kishon River with all his chariots and troops. And I'll make sure you win the battle." ⁸ Barak said, "If you go with me, I'll go. But if you don't go with me, I won't go." ^9-10 She said, "Of course I'll go with you. But understand that with an attitude like that, there'll be no glory in it for you. God will use a woman's hand to take care of Sisera." The Message

Israel continued it the cycle of falling away from God and drawing near when they were oppressed. A Judge and prophet, Deborah led them into battle under the direction of God for His glory.

Israel didn’t tear down the altars, so the false gods were a trap for Israel.

Joshua 18: ^1-2 Then the entire congregation of the People of Israel got together at Shiloh. They put up the Tent of Meeting. The land was under their control but there were still seven Israelite tribes who had yet to receive their inheritance. ^3-5 Joshua addressed the People of Israel: "How long are you going to sit around on your hands, putting off taking possession of the land that God, the God of your ancestors, has given you? Pick three men from each tribe so I can commission them. They will survey and map the land, showing the inheritance due each tribe, and report back to me. They will divide it into seven parts. Judah will stay in its territory in the south and the people of Joseph will keep to their place in the north. ⁶ "You are responsible for preparing a survey map showing seven portions. • From Marc -- The infant I had mentioned last week in the hospital, Heather, passed away. Please be in continued prayer for the family, especially the parents. Aside from also having a 3 year old who still needs them, I found out that the baby caught the sickness from the mom. I can't imagine what they must be going through, but I do know that only God's grace can carry them through.
• From John Sartor -- The elderly lady I met on Saturday during our distribution of Salvation Tracks name is Mrs. Sims. Her address is 165 Bedrock, off the Old China Spring Road. She told me that her Grandson “Devin” attends our church, and Bro. Look at what's before you: the Chest of the Covenant. Think of it—the Master of the entire earth is crossing the Jordan as you watch. Now take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from each tribe. When the soles of the feet of the priests carrying the Chest of God, Master of all the earth, touch the Jordan's water, the flow of water will be stopped—the water coming from upstream will pile up in a heap." ^14-16 And that's what happened. The people left their tents to cross the Jordan, led by the priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant. When the priests got to the Jordan and their feet touched the water at the edge (the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest), the flow of water stopped. It piled up in a heap—a long way off—at Adam, which is near Zarethan. The river went dry all the way down to the Arabah Sea (the Salt Sea). And the people crossed, facing Jericho. ¹⁷ And there they stood; those priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant stood firmly planted on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground. Finally the whole nation was across the Jordan, and not one wet foot. The Message

• From Marc -- The infant I had mentioned last week in the hospital, Heather, passed away Friday. Please be in continued prayer for the family, especially the parents. Aside from also having a 3 year old who still needs them, I found out that the baby caught the sickness from the mom. I can't imagine what they must be going through, but I do know that only God's grace can carry them through.
• From John Sartor -- The elderly lady I met on Saturday during our distribution of Salvation Tracks name is Mrs. Sims. Her address is 165 Bedrock, off the Old China Spring Road. She told me that her Grandson “Devin” attends our church, and Bro. Jeff says he knows the Boy. Mrs. Sims said that her Daughter was having sever bouts with cancer, and that her name is Donna Pankow. I told her that we would put her daughter on the Churches Prayer List. 
• From Tammy Wyers – Pray for Nina’s mother. She is very sick and weak. Please pray that the doctors can finally figure out what to do for her. Pray for healing, protection, and peace for all involved. Please pray for extra strength and endurance for Mike and Nina.

Deuteronomy 34:  ^1-3 Moses climbed from the Plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, the peak of Pisgah facing Jericho. God showed him all the land from Gilead to Dan, all Naphtali, Ephraim, and Manasseh; all Judah reaching to the Mediterranean Sea; the Negev and the plains which encircle Jericho, City of Palms, as far south as Zoar. ⁴ Then and there God said to him, "This is the land I promised to your ancestors, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with the words 'I will give it to your descendants.' Moses lead Israel right to the edge of the Promised Land but was not allowed by God to enter.

• Thanks for the prayers for me. I had been running a fever of 102 off and on since Saturday but it broke last night and the doctor says I am on the mend. 
• Pray for Lynn Wood’s dad who is ill.
• From DeAnna Record -- Pray for Charlie and Tanny Edison. Tanny fell about a month ago and had been dealing with that. Charles went into the hospital with breathing problems and has now returned home.
• From Louis – Pray for June, she will have hand surgery next Wednesday to repair a damaged tendon on her thumb.
• From Tammy Wyers – Pray for Nina’s mother. She is very sick and weak. Please pray that the doctors can finally figure out what to do for her. Pray for healing, protection, and peace for all involved. Please pray for extra strength and endurance for Mike and Nina.

God gave instructions to Israel for the Passover Feast a seven day worship service filled with sacrifices.

Number 21: ^-5 They set out from Mount Hor along the Red Sea Road, a detour around the land of Edom. The people became irritable and cross as they traveled. They spoke out against God and Moses: "Why did you drag us out of Egypt to die in this godforsaken country? No decent food; no water—we can't stomach this stuff any longer." ^6-7 So God sent poisonous snakes among the people; they bit them and many in Israel died. The people came to Moses and said, "We sinned when we spoke out against God and you. Pray to God; ask him to take these snakes from us." Moses prayed for the people. ⁸ God said to Moses, "Make a snake and put it on a flagpole: Whoever is bitten and looks at it will live." ⁹ So Moses made a snake of fiery copper and put it on top of a flagpole. Anyone bitten by a snake who then looked at the copper snake lived. The Message

God told Moses to make a healing symbol of a copper snake lifted up on a pole. You recognize this symbol of the medical profession from your doctor’s office? Or that Jesus was also lifted up on a pole to save us.
